Siberian Salamander

The Siberian salamander is a small carnivorous lizard that can live up to 8 years long. Siberian salamanders are psychrophiles and can resist -4O ˚ c for a long period of time. These small lizards also burrow 6O cm under ground.

Each and every winter the small lizards shut themselves down, allowing themselves to freeze. This gives prey (slugs and arthropods) a chance to re-populate. When summer comes the Siberian salamanders unfreeze and continue life. This means these lizards sustainably “hunt”.
